Chris Gosling

Chris is the publisher and editor of GreyTraveller. He was 57 in 2003. He decided to change his life for the better in 1998, after a small heart attack, and after his marriage split in the same year, started to plan his escape from routine.

He had always previously worked in sales and marketing, and combined this with an interest in writing and publishing. In his thirties and forties he wrote extensively on marketing and business communications for printing industry journals, and he became interested in the internet in 1997, when he founded the amdram amateur theatre website,
www.amdram.co.uk, which he sold in early 2000.

During
2000, he spend about 8 months living on a 23 foot yacht, sailing single-handed for about 6 months, and living aboard for 2 more months moored in Ramsgate Harbour before finding a local flat, and selling the boat - possibly a bad move, in retrospect.

In
2001, Chris travelled part-way through the French canals, and then took a coach and train journey from Ipswich, UK, to Benidorm in the throbbing touristy heart of the Costa Blanca, where he lived in a spanish residentia in the centre of the old town for about six weeks before flying home.

2002 was a dead year, except for "ordinary" holidays - enjoyable certainly, but not quite as fraught, or interesting, as freelance travel!

With a new partner acquired (!) in 2002, Dot,
2003 has been a much more interesting proposition. We bought a small motor cruiser and toured some of the English canals for the spring and early summer, but sold it again after about 3 months aboard. During the peak of the summer, we enjoyed our own country's weather, and planned starting this website, and our journeys over coming months.

All of Chris’s adventures and travels from 2000 wards are here on the GreyTraveller website.
